A new biome was added with Rust’s recent Naval update in the form of the deep sea. Rust’s deep sea provides players with the opportunity to earn high-tier loot by plundering tropical islands, hijacking ghost ships, and completing missions for the nearby Floating City. Follow along as we cover everything you can expect from the deep sea biome.
Deep Sea Islands are partially procedurally generated and can instantly be spotted in the distance once entering the deep sea. After approaching one of the small islands, you will find they can be completely empty, full of abundant resources, or covered in ruins guarded by Naval Scientists. The islands are one of the biggest mysteries of the deep sea and allow for a refreshing experience every time.

Ghost Ships are a type of miniature monument found randomly in three variants across Rust’s deep sea. Each ghost ship comes guarded with an average of six Naval Scientists found roaming sporadically around the ship. Mid-tier loot can be found around the ship, along with a 10% chance for a hackable crate to spawn containing military-grade loot.

Groups of patrolling Scientists can be found roaming in Rust’s new PT boat alongside two flanking RHIBs around the deep sea. The Scientists come in groups of 12 to 18 and actively hunt any players in sight, making them a danger if not properly approached. Their boats can be plundered after killing them, offering loot and fuel, while also being the only way to obtain the new PT boat.

Center in Rust’s deep sea is the massive Floating City safe zone. They come in four different variations, each being made of connecting barges offering several vendors, utilities, and other resources. Expect to find a massive casino, a fully fishable environment, a farming barge, tons of vendors, and plenty of utilities (research tables, refineries, water catchers, etc).

That covers everything you can expect to find inside Rust’s deep-sea biome. From tropical deep-sea islands to a massive Floating City safe zone, there is something in the new deep sea biome for every player.
