With the introduction of Rust’s long-awaited Naval update, a large AI refresh was brought to all Scientists found out in the sea. The new Naval Scientists feature advanced AI to make for more interesting fights and interactions with players. Read along as we break down exactly how Rust’s Naval Scientist AI functions.
Naval Scientists are equipped with the same class of equipment as default Scientists. However, unlike Rust’s original Scientists, Naval Scientists cannot see through walls and instead rely on audio queues and vision to hunt players.

The improvements allow for in-depth interactions between Scientists and players, allowing players to bait with audio, jiggle peek, and surprise the Scientists with a sneak attack. Furthermore, the Naval Scientists will usea strategy in their operations. They often try to flank the player, throw smokes, dive to cover when hurt, or even rush together as opposed to bottlenecking into a chokepoint like the original Scientists would.
Naval Scientists can be found all across the Rust’s seas, forcing you to set sail and explore to find them. They are most commonly found on the Oil Rigs, but can also be found amongst the dangers of the deep sea.

The deep sea can be difficult to access, requiring a sturdy player-built boat or other boats such as the RHIB or PT boat. Once you are roaming the deep sea, you will find Naval Scientists patrolling on Scientist boats, defending Ghost Ships, or protecting the treasures of deep-sea tropical islands.
The new Naval Scientists also feature a refreshed model, allowing players to tell them apart from the other Scientists. The new Scientists feature a similar uniform but with a navy camouflage design and a thick square visor. The refreshing designs make them extremely easy to tell apart from regular Scientists while fitting the Naval update’s theme.

That’s everything you need to know about Rust’s new Naval Scientist AI. Hopefully, with the information provided, your first encounters with the new AI systems go smoothly. If you found this blog helpful, feel free to check out other blogs on our page. See you next time!
