The most polarizing update in the Premier Season 5 patch is definitely not the decision to remove Overpass in favor of some maps deemed overplayed by the community; it’s the all-new bomb damage system.
Bomb damage now spreads via shockwaves across the map rather than being entirely dependent on the bomb’s explosion. Explosion shockwave damage is now what everyone has to consider when attempting to preserve their health post-plant.
Everyone had a decent understanding of the bomb radius before, but the new update really means you have to learn it all over again, especially for the Active Duty Map Pool.

A player would still die almost instantly if they’re way too exposed to the bomb explosion, but the way the explosion spreads through walls and other obstacles will heavily soften the blow. This unlocks new angles and positioning that previously would have led to guaranteed death, especially in complex maps such as Nuke.
No matter where you are on the map, even if the bomb explosion is on the complete opposite site, you will take at least 1HP of damage at the end of the round. So many players across the years have survived with only a single point of health to show for it, and unfortunately, this new system means those days are over.

The map that received the biggest buff in terms of surviving a bomb explosion with the Premier Season 5 update is undoubtedly Nuke. It used to be such a challenge to survive anywhere but your own spawn point since the main area is designed vertically, but now that doesn’t even matter a whole lot.
If you’re standing on A Site of Nuke and the bomb explosion goes off from B Site, you will definitely survive with a full bar of health (and even a bit less) thanks to the fact that the explosion shockwave has to go through so many walls and tight angles.

In the previous system for bomb damage, doing the same thing would cause your player to die, no matter what.
A spot that’s been nerfed to the ground by this update is Dosia on Inferno (which is the farthest side of Pit on A Site). You will 100% die by staying in that spot since it’s wide open to the bomb explosion shockwave damage.
Since Bomb Defusal is pretty much the official game mode of Counter-Strike 2, no one can avoid this update in their future games. While there will definitely be a learning curve for a while in unlearning old spots and figuring out new angles to hide in, the Premier Season 5 patch notes also reveal a helpful feature to track whether or not you’d survive before the next round.

A player’s health bar will now also serve as an indicator of how much damage they will take from the bomb explosion in the spot they’re currently standing in.
