With the first Thursday of May comes the new monthly Rust update. The Upgrade Hard Raid Harder update brings two major features with workbench upgrades and a mortar cannon, along with various other changes, additions, and fixes. Follow along as we cover everything added inside of this month’s Rust update.
A new upgrade system has been added to workbenches, allowing for up to nine upgrades to elevate your workbench. The different upgrades provide bonus effects that can be combined to create fun and effective combos. Workbench upgrades cannot be crafted and are able to be found rarely inside loot. The new deployable mortar acts as both a defensive and raiding weapon. The new deployable functions similarly to the cannons added with the Naval update a few months ago. Mortars can be fired over long distances with two available ammo types for players to choose from. The standard mortar can be used for structure damage and raiding, while the fragmentation mortar can be used for AoE crowd control. Using the mortar takes practice, so prepare to miss your first couple of shots.

The tin can alarm is getting a much-needed rework now, allowing players to attach different throwables to the wire. The change reworks the item from a standard alarm into a full-on trap as players are able to attach grenades, molotov, and other dangerous items to the alarm.

The server browser has received changes to help accurately reflect the ping of servers. The ability for server owners to spoof ping has been entirely removed. Ping is now based on country mapping using estimates based on the location and coordinates of the server. The system also requires Rust to estimate your location to accurately display the ping of servers for you.

The vending machine UI has been improved, featuring a new look for players to enjoy. The administration page has been entirely redesigned now, including the ability to set up vending orders with the built-in inventory, sell skins individually, and the power to reorder existing sell orders without deleting or recreating them.

A new stone building skin DLC is available for players to purchase. The Crypt Stone Building Skin features a haunting look as petrified skulls are embedded into each of the building tiles. The building skin can be purchased from the Rust item shop for $12.99.

Rust and Discord have collaborated to create a Rust Game Shop inside of Discord. The shop allows you to purchase and gift Rust DLCs directly from the Discord store. A temporary sale will run on the new Discord store until May 21st, allowing players to take advantage of a 20% discount on several of Rust’s DLCs.

Several new achievements were added to Rust involving content exclusive to the Naval update. The achievements offer fun challenges for players to attempt while exploring the large update. Several of the achievements are hidden, and we will update you on the specifics of each new achievement in a future article.

A new set of Rust Twitch drops will be available for players to claim from May 13th to May 18th. Six drops will be available during the event with an exclusive HMLMG drop tied to the official Twitch Rivals channel. Remember to claim the drops, you must link your accounts on the official Rust x Twitch Drops Website.
