Rust Spring Clean Monthly Update Overview

Rust’s monthly update has finally arrived, with the first Thursday of April bringing a variety of content and improvements for players to experience. New deployables, an Easter event, and a bundle of new models and animations make their way into Rust’s update this month. Follow along as we cover everything added by Rust’s Spring Clean update.

Rust Guides

Armored Ladder Hatch

The armored ladder hatch serves as a direct upgrade to the metal ladder hatch. The significant upgrade is identical in statistics to an armored door. The hatch has been a long-requested feature by many players who have had to substitute armored doors and staircases to fill the gap that the lack of armored ladder hatches left.

Water Wheel

The water wheel acts as a new way to generate electricity in this Rust update. The wheel can be placed in flowing water to automatically generate power. It can also be placed on foundations, as players can run on the wheel as an alternative to manually generating power. The wheel can be paired with a prisoner hood and handcuffs to kidnap and force a player to generate power for you.

Tech Tree Improvements

The tech tree has received an upgrade, allowing players to unlock multiple items at once. Click the item you wish to unlock, and you can now automatically unlock the entire path before it as long as you have the Scrap available. The change will drastically speed up the tech tree process for players sitting on an abundance of Scrap. The UI will now remain centered when zooming in and out, while new sounds and animations have also been added to the tree.

Colored Buttons

Colors have been added to the buttons, allowing for a new level of electrical organization. A total of nine new colors are available for players, bringing the total number of button colors to ten. To swap the color of a button, interact with it and select “Set Color” to open the color radial menu.

Overfishing And Other Fishing Changes

Fishing has become a lot more active with the introduction of an overfishing mechanic. If too many fish have been caught in a certain area, the area will become “overfished,” granting low-quality loot instead of fish. Fish populations regenerate over time, allowing patient players to return and fish more. To adjust for the change, fishing in the deep sea has been improved. Herrings and Anchovies can no longer be caught inside the deep sea, raising the overall quality of the loot.

Salvaged Axe and Medical Syringe Model Remake

Both Rust’s salvaged axe and medical syringe have received updated looks and a set of new animations. Each of the models was over 12 years old and beginning to show its age. The new models are beautifully detailed, while the animations are smooth and overall a massive improvement. Along with the remakes, the salvaged axe has also become skinnable, allowing for workshop creations.

Hot Air Balloon Altimeter

A small altimeter has been added next to the Hot Air Balloon burn control button. The altimeter allows you to get an accurate measurement of your height to make piloting easier.

Light Toggle Radial Menu

A light toggle radial menu has been added with the Rust update, allowing players to activate specific lights if they are equipped with multiple lights. The button still acts as before if tapped, activating all equipped lights, but if held, it now opens a radial menu allowing you to manually toggle each equipped light. This can be especially useful in nighttime situations where you may be using both a weapon flashlight and night vision goggles.

F1 Menu Redesign

Rust’s F1 Menu has been given a refreshed look this update, bringing it up to par with the menu redesign added back in 2025. The new UI works similarly to before, with several new features. For one, a command list is now present allowing you to see every available command, also text size can be modified using CTRL + Scrollwheel and items in the spawn menu can now be favorited. You may also come across two new menu tabs available for admins to use. The Copy Pastes tab allows you to quickly copy and paste build files, given that you have the permissions to. The Loadout tab allows you to save a copy of your loadout and quickly equip it, spawning in the necessary items.

The Easter Event has begun in full force and runs all the way until April 16th. The event will start, marked by a pop-up on every player’s screen. Once it begins, painted eggs will spawn around the player, which can be collected through interacting with them or by clicking on them while holding an egg basket. 10 painted eggs can be upgraded into a bronze egg, granting low-quality rewards. The eggs can be upgraded further with 10 bronze eggs, granting a silver egg, and 10 silver eggs, granting a gold egg. A leaderboard will also be available during the event, granting the highest-scoring player some extra eggs.

Bunny Costume DLC

Along with the Easter Event comes a brand new bunny costume. The costume acts as a skin for the wooden pants, coming in three different inflatable color-ways. While not effective in combat due to their size, the costumes are a fun way to have some Easter fun with friends.

Amethyst Rustigé Egg

A new rustigé egg has also been added with the Easter event this Rust update. The bejeweled amethyst rustigé egg acts as a decorative item for players to store in their base. When interacted with, the egg opens to reveal a golden copy of the Giant Excavator monument while also playing a short snippet of the Rust soundtrack through a musical movement mechanism.

Easter Wallpapers

Finally, a set of easter-themed wallpapers has been added to celebrate the event. There are three wallpapers in total, two acting as wallpaper walls and the other as wallpaper flooring. Each wallpaper can be purchased from the Rust item store separately and becomes marketable and tradeable a week after purchase.
