Is It Ever Smart to Push Smokes in CS2?

In Counter-Strike 2, a smoke grenade creates a cloud of, well, smoke that blocks out vision on both sides. Unlike previous installments of the franchise, this is done better these days, thanks to the new responsiveness that makes them interact uniquely with the environment.

While it’s arguably one of the least effective strategies that has ever been performed to push a smoke, some players are capable of doing this to a high level that the risk involved becomes irrelevant. For the average Joe, though, is it ever smart to do such a wild thing?

CS2 Smokes Don’t Account For Surprise Attacks

Unless it’s already happened multiple times in a game, realistically, no one would expect anyone to just push out of a smoke that’s blocking off an area. Chances are, the closest player to said smoke cloud would have their backs turned and scanning a different part of the map.

If the game until a certain point has been methodical and built on patience, then a surprise T Side attack done by pushing smokes might just be what would make the enemy team lose focus altogether. Just put faith into your aim, your teammates’ competence, and never forget the basics of the game.

If Pushing Was The Plan All Along, Do It

If the call from your in-game leader was to “Rush B no stop“, then you never stop. A smoke grenade was thrown by the CTs, or a smoke was deployed to put out a fire? Run through it. Never lose sight of the plan, even if things go south.

Visibility will only be at zero temporarily, and even then, the minimap exists for that particular reason. At the end of the day, no amount of preparation by the defenders can completely cancel out a T Side push that’s already adapted to the situation.
