In Counter-Strike, rushing is the act of quickly sending most or all of your team towards one site in an attempt to completely overwhelm any opponents set up there or completely beat them to the area. It’s probably the single most famous tactic in all of Counter-Strike, and is used at least once a game by T Side players.
It’s incredibly simple and probably the first real call you heard as a new player, since there’s really little rhyme or reason to it. But how effective would a rush truly be against better enemies? Does it only give you the upper hand in lower ranks, or would it even work effectively against better opponents?
It’s not rare to watch a professional match of the very best CS2 teams in the world and see a full Rush A or B call out of nowhere. This is typically done during rounds where winning against far superior weapons feels too difficult, and they want the round to be over already, or in an attempt to catch the other squad by surprise and gain an advantage that way.

If you’re in Silver or have a Premier rating somewhere in the 5000s, then when a rush is called, it usually plays out the exact same way each time: push into one site, look for cover as soon as possible, try to get picks, and if lucky, get the bomb down. In higher-ranked games, it goes a little differently.

Rushes can be called at the expense of one other player, who will act as a lurker. Instead of throwing all five members of the team into one chokepoint, a designated lurker will rush the site from the opposite direction and try to get picks that way.
Said lurker can also share information with the rest of their teammates and call for a quick rotation towards the other site, should there be a better chance of succeeding on that side of the map.
The opportunities with rushing are endless for the sole reason that it can be used to break patterns. If both teams have been playing slow and methodical CS for a while, then one side that opts to play with speed rather than precise coordination can shift the tone of the game completely.
All in all, rushing is a viable team strategy used in every kind of rank. It’s not a play that’s designed and restricted to only lower-elo players, but even the very best make use of it.
