Rust’s Naval Update, meant to launch on the first Thursday of December, was sadly delayed all the way until 2026. This means for the first time in Rust’s history, the developers missed their monthly major update window. The upcoming naval update brings with it massive new systems, features, and content that the developers just weren’t ready to ship yet.
Rust’s Naval Update has been cancelled and delayed until February 5th, 2026. The massive delay leaves a large gap in content that Rust players have never experienced before. This gives the developers plenty of time to polish and perfect the update into the best version possible for players to experience. The extra two months are needed to make sure the update is something the developers can be proud of.

Even with Rust’s cancelled major update, the developers still have plans to hold the players over until the Naval Update’s release. Rust’s Christmas event shoots off on December 18th, bringing with it a DLC along with a couple of extra bits of content that didn’t quite make it this month. The update in January will bring only some light changes along with a roadmap of planned content in 2026.

That covers all the news around Rust’s cancelled monthly update. The delayed Naval Update is now set to launch on February 5th, 2026, and will be one of Rust’s biggest updates yet, with tons of new systems, features, and content for players to experience.
