Rust’s recent “Nerfed, Buffed, Balance?” June Update introduced a ton of new features, including a brand new directional item dropping setting. The new system for item dropping is a huge quality of life feature that makes it much easier to toss loot to teammates, dispose of items, and sort your base through an abundance of new HUD features and mechanics. Follow along as we teach you how to use Rust’s new directional item-dropping feature.
Directional Item Dropping allows the player to throw out items in the direction that they drag them in their inventory HUD. The directional drop feature also makes it much quicker to drop items by allowing you to release them without having to drag the item outside the HUD entirely. It is important to note that this feature isn’t only bound to your inventory. You can also use directional item dropping inside of containers, the bodies of players, or any other source of storage.
Rust’s Directional item dropping can be activated through the use of a newly added keybind, which you can find in your settings. The control is unbound by default and requires you to assign it yourself.

With that out of the way, you should now easily be able to use Rust’s new directional item-dropping feature. Have fun easily sorting bases, splitting loot amongst teammates, and finding all the other unique and creative ways to use the new system.
