In Counter-Strike 2, there are two ways that players fire their ranged weapons: tapping and spraying. Tapping is the practice of firing one round at a time, while spraying fires multiple rounds from the magazine at once.

The reason for there being two methods is that they both have different uses and strengths. One is better suited for more skilled players and in close range, while the other is preferred for long-range skirmishes.
Spray patterns are a part of Counter-Strike that require a ton of focus, and despite how many players are on the game every single day, not a lot have mastered them. If your recoil control is inadequate, then perhaps tapping is the right firing mechanic for you.

The rate of fire is definitely slower, but the bullets themselves are more controlled, and your shots will be more accurate in the long run. Unless you’re in a situation where a full spray is absolutely the only thing you should do (such as in point-blank range), then tap away.
Spraying is generally a worse practice, regardless of the gun, from a long distance. Since the target becomes smaller, it’s also more difficult to keep the shots grouped in a tight space. Barring any lucky headshot or just people running into your spray, chances are you’ll unload a full magazine before even making a dent.

Long range is where tapping truly shines. Its accuracy is unbeatable by spraying from a distance, and you’ll see the world’s best pro players doing the same thing.
Knowing the recoil patterns of weapons in CS2 is not an easy task, but if it’s something you’ve already practiced, then by all means put those hours to good use. Spraying is extremely effective in skilled hands, and someone with solid recoil control can be a decisive factor throughout a game.

Unlike tapping, spraying unloads the most amount of damage per second simply because it also shoots out the bullets in quick succession. Someone who can easily control their spray in CS can eliminate the enemy in less than half the time that someone who solely relies on tapping would.
While tapping is the best thing to do from long range, spraying is the only thing you should do when the enemy is practically next to you. The closer the enemy, the bigger the target, which also reduces the overall precision you need in your spray patterns to score a kill.
