What is Utility in Counter-Strike 2?

Utility in CS2 refers to the additional throwable items you can purchase in the buy menu before the round, in addition to the usual weapons. These include Incendiary/Molotovs, HE Grenades, Smokes, Flashbangs, and Decoys. Each one has its own purpose and, with how CS2 improved on utility from its predecessor, some interact with the environment in special ways. Utility usage is not just about throwing random grenade to various spots on a bomb site and hoping something happens. Most of the time these days, precise lineups on every single map make all the difference when it comes to map control in the game.

How to Improve CS2 Utility Usage

Unlike other fundamentals of CS that mainly focus on practice servers or practice mode in specific maps, the best way to improve utility usage is to watch tutorials online (for actual guides and lineups) along with professional matches (to become familiar with what situations they are necessary).

Many pro players have a plethora of lineups memorized from different spots on the map or even multiple variations of the same utility thrown from the exact same place. This is not something you just figure out on your own, which is why online map-specific guides will go a long way in addition to actually repeatedly executing them in practice and in competitive matchmaking.
