Counter-Strike 2 is a game that, by nature, rewards precision above all else. Movement, crosshair placement, and spray control are all parts of the experience that can be practiced, improved on, and eventually mastered. Yet, some things still come down to RNG at the end of the day.
One of these things is called first-shot or first-bullet inaccuracy. You can do everything right down from counter-strafing to pinpoint aim on the target’s head and still not be rewarded with a headshot or even a tag. So why exactly is that a thing?
The first shot of a weapon is typically the most accurate one, but bullet accuracy is still not guaranteed. Movement error and general aiming mistakes still affect how the bullet goes out of a fired weapon.

Distance is also a huge deal in the difference between a hit and a miss. You can be standing completely still with your crosshair aimed at the absolute center of your opponent’s head or body, and still whiff the shot completely to no fault of your own. That kind of inaccuracy happens when range is taken into account.
Every weapon, even the AWP, has first bullet inaccuracy when fired from range. If you’re at point-blank range and fire pretty much anything on your opponent’s head, barring any lapse in skill or directional change, it will most certainly result in a kill.

Distance is one of the circumstances that changes the first bullet’s accuracy a lot. Whether using rifles, pistols, or snipers, the farther you are from your target, the more of a chance the first bullet you fire might not make direct contact.

This has been a thing since the time of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, so even more veteran players are aware of this. Sometimes, you can truly do everything right but still end up without a kill to show for it.
