CS2 Economy: How to Break Your Opponent’s Economy

The in-game economy in CS2 is one of the most important aspects of the gameplay and also what sets Counter-Strike apart from other FPS titles. It’s never truly enough to just get to the next round, even with a win, but managing your team’s economy is just as crucial to the overall experience.

CS2 economy looks simple enough in concept: winning rounds gives you more in-game money, and losing consecutive rounds practically drains all your money. But it’s the decisions made from one round to the next that really determine a team’s financial situation. If you want to really hurt the enemy team, then these are the ways to keep them at a disadvantage for who knows how many rounds.

Keep Winning Rounds

It’s really easier said than done, but the number one way to hurt your opponents is to keep winning rounds. Especially if they’re on the CT side, the entire team would struggle to have the best weapons available, even with a full round loss bonus if they simply never win anything.

Now, this doesn’t only mean winning by a thin margin, but pretty much dominating the whole team. Any team’s money pool is directly tied to the equipment they buy, so forcing them to buy weapons and even defuse kits will put significant dents in their economic strategies.

Capitalize On Eco Rounds

When any team is on an eco round, especially against opponents with enough money for a full buy, the goal switches from securing a win to getting a couple of picks to earn extra money from the kill reward and even scavenge weapons in the process.

This is where those in a full buy should capitalize on their superior equipment to easily pick up the one-round win. Avoiding unnecessary deaths and not giving away the best weapons in the game to a team that’s already struggling for extra cash is the perfect response to any eco round.

Defeat Them In Obvious Force Buys

Suppose the score is tilted in your team’s favor and the opponents really need to stop the bleeding for any chance in the game, it won’t be an uncommon thing to gamble on a force buy. It’s a common practice within Counter-Strike 2 that has both benefits and drawbacks.

A team in a force buy scenario will look to secure the current round without losing as many players as possible. Say they do end up as the winning team, but you and your squad are able to wipe out as many players as possible; that’s still significantly limiting how much money they really got out of the full buy round.
