Should You Ever Buy a Helmet on CT Side In Counter-Strike 2?

It doesn’t matter how long the franchise has been around; there always seems to be a debate on just how much armor to buy as a CT player in Counter-Strike. Since the body armor and helmet are purchased separately, and with varying prices in the buy menu, some players opt not to buy armor to protect the head in favor of saving money or simply because it won’t do anything against Terrorists in the first place. But should you always forgo the helmet as a CT player?

The CS2 Helmet Is Still Effective For CTs

A helmet’s job is literally to protect against one-tap headshots, with the exception of an AK-47 or an AWP, which deal headshots that instantly kill an opponent even if they have head armor. If the Ts are in a full buy and these weapons are expected to show up, then you can do without the helmet and save the money, or pick up an extra piece of utility, but that isn’t always the case.

Pistols and other weapons that are weaker in damage to the AK-47 will still not result in a one-hit kill when fired at a player’s head if said character is wearing a helmet. This shows that even as a CT, simply having head armor will not only reduce damage but also prevent a single headshot from being fatal.

Don’t Buy During Unnecessary Rounds

While a helmet does have its uses for CTs, there are still rounds where you’re just better off without one since it won’t do much to change the outcome. Apart from situations where the opposing T side is on a full buy, don’t force a helmet during a half buy or eco round. Torso or chest armor is the more important purchase in any case, and if the money is tight, that’s the one to prioritize.

It’s also not the most advisable idea to buy a helmet during pistol rounds. While everyone will be aiming for the head to deal maximum damage, the reality is that the CT economy is far inferior to that of the Ts. Dying without a kill or a lost round after purchasing a helmet puts you in a tough financial spot for the next 2-3 rounds against a T side, which may already have AKs.
