Rust Adds Painting Line Tool to Painting System

A new painting tool has been added to Rust’s painting system, which the developers have been slowly improving over the last several months. The feature returns with a modern look after being removed from the system many years ago. The tool aims to simplify Rust’s painting process while granting quality-of-life features to the game’s artists.

What is the Painting Line Tool in Rust?

The painting line tool is one of several found in Rust’s painting system. It allows the player to draw a perfectly straight line on any sign or canvas, such as the Large Wooden Sign, or paintable surface like the Circle Balloon. The tool can also be used with many of the new canvases added with the Artist Pack DLC. The tool is easy to use, allowing beginner artists struggling to get the perfect line or an experienced artist looking to speed up their painting.

How to Use Rust’s Painting Line Tool

To begin using the painting line tool, you’ll first need to interact with a sign or paintable surface to open Rust’s painting GUI. Once painting, hold shift and drag your mouse to select an area to draw the line. A small black line will project from the selection point and follow the cursor, highlighting where the line will be placed. The type of line drawn is dependent on your brush settings. Your brush size, brush opacities, and brush type all affect the line drawn.
