In CS2, run and gun means the same as it does anywhere else — caring little about what’s around you or how random the bullets fly out of the chamber, and simply focusing on creating chaos. It’s a funny tactic that’s used in every level of CS2 competition to varying degrees of success.
From one perspective, it’s hard to stop a fast-moving force with a gun that’s just shooting at everything in sight. From another, it’s pretty reckless and goes against the core gunplay mechanic that is recoil or spray patterns. With all that said, is it ever smart to run and gun during a game?
When you’ve been wired to always take most situations within a round of CS2 patiently, that’s where speed is deadliest. Don’t get me wrong, setting up around a site and going through the motions is the way to go 9/10 times, but that 10% is reserved for the failure brought about by a surprise rush attack.

You may still be mid-lineup or even mid-utility throw by the time someone carrying a simple SMG comes running through one of the openings and takes out the two players whose job is to watch over the site. That’s the power of the run-and-gun strategy, chaotic yet deadly at the same time.
Perhaps there’s a problem with your usual site takes and Astralis-esque executes, why not surprise the other side of the server? For any team that’s used to the pattern of methodical play round after round, the last thing they would think to happen is a bunch of enemy players running and gunning across the map.

If it works, then there’s the reset you’ve been looking for! If not, you got a feel for the game and tried something new. At the end of the day, Counter-Strike is a game of runs (no pun intended), so anything to try and swing momentum towards your squad is always welcome.
One piece of veteran advice that’s been shared across the years is that if you’re stuck in a game and the lag is something you really can’t control enough to play properly, pick up a P90 and go run. It might not be the greatest strategy ever, but since you’re already at a disadvantage, a P90 will do you so much more good than an AK-47 will.

At the end of the day, no matter how “Silver” a run-and-gun strategy seems, it works. It’s effective, and even the greatest players in the world do it from time to time.
