With Rust’s new October Meta Shift update, a new trap item was added to the game in the form of the Small Spike Trap. This primitive device is perfect for disabling enemies, applying light damage, and a slowing effect. Get ready as we cover everything about the new Small Spike Trap.
Check out the rest of the Meta Shift update in our update guide:
The Small Spike Trap is a default blueprint inside of Rust. The deployable does not require a workbench to craft, meaning you can make one the moment you acquire the necessary materials. The Small Spike Trap can be crafted using 80 wood, each taking a total of 15 seconds to create.

Once crafted, the small trap can be placed anywhere as long as you are not building or the terrain is not blocked. Its small stature (similar to the size of a landmine) makes it perfect to conceal in bushes or grassy areas where players won’t be able to see the trap.

Its damage is lackluster, slightly chipping the health of enemies who step over it. The slowing effect is the main appeal of the small spike trap, making it useful for thwarting enemy pushes or surprising enemies the moment they’re trapped.

That’s everything you need to know about Rust’s Small Spike Trap. Let’s see what kind of new trap designs pop up as players familiarize themselves with the new item.
