The first Thursday of every month brings a major Rust update, along with a monthly wipe. The new October Rust Meta Shift Update brings large gameplay changes to Rust’s core progression, looting, and combat to give both new and old players a breath of fresh air.

After constant complaints of a stale progression meta, the developers have decided to take an experimental step forward to encourage more World PVP and player interactions. The new changes mostly affect level 2 and 3 workbenches, as they will now each cost 5 basic and advanced blueprint fragments, respectively. Blueprint fragments are directly tied to monuments, encouraging people to leave their base.

Basic blueprint fragments are used to craft the tier 2 workbench and can be found in multiple locations.

Advanced Blueprint Fragments are much harder to find and are needed for the tier 3 workbench.
With the introduction of blueprint fragments in the Rust update, the scrap cost of workbenches level 2 and three has been reduced, with the level 2 workbench halving from 500 to 250 scrap. While the workbench level 3 has been massively reduced in price from 1250 to 500 scrap.

The Dome, Ferry Terminal, and Radtown have all received brand-new green card puzzle rooms to keep them relevant in the Blueprint Fragment meta. The basic rooms include a blue card, a few crates, and the occasional military crate. Inside the Dome puzzle room, specifically, you can find a hidden recycler added to the monument. Furthermore, the Missile Silo monument has been revamped into a red-card monument, featuring improvements to loot, including advanced blueprint fragments and three additional Elite crates.

For the first time in 5 years, the loot has been shuffled around inside monuments, creating new paths and hotspots. The change is yet another hoping to bring a sense of freshness to players who have begun to find looting stale.

The crosshair overhaul added this Rust update has all but added Crosshair X inside of Rust. The once basic crosshair has been replaced with a vast amount of customization options, including style, color, dot size, line length and width, outline, and outline color.
The new small spike trap is the perfect primitive bush trap with the small circular trap slotting perfectly into forested areas. While its damage is extremely low, the spikes do apply a major slowing effect while the enemy is walking through them. The spike can be crafted for 80 wood and is a default blueprint.

Drones have been given a single storage slot to hold any item this Rust update. Whatever item is held can be dropped using left click. If you drop any sort of throwable explosive from the drone, it will be activated and explode.

New crates can rarely be found washed up on the beach this Rust update, containing a small amount of items to help boost your start. The contents of the crates are currently unknown; however, we will update you the moment we find out more.

Bunnyhopping has been added to bicycles and tricycles, allowing players to have an easier time navigating obstacles. By right-clicking while on either of the bikes, you will initiate a short jump, allowing you to cross over small rocks, logs, or walls. The height of a hop is dependent on your speed, health, and stamina, and a bunnyhop can only be initiated once every 3 seconds and will require 10% of the bike’s stamina bar.

Two new charity plushies have been added to Rust with the update and can be found inside the item shop for $3.99, running until October 30th. The bears are pink and red, respectively, each supporting either the Cancer Research UK cancer charity or the Ronald McDonald House Charities UK. The plushies can be placed in-game and function similarly to a pookie bear.

A new Rust Twitch drop event is bringing 6 new Twitch Rivals-themed skins to the game, including a Twitch Rivals backpack that will only be available to claim for one day. Find out more about the drops on Rust’s official Twitch drop page.

Rust’s Halloween update will be coming to the game on October 23rd, starting at 1 P.M. EST. The event will run for the rest of the wipe, introduce spooky features, and even brings brand new Halloween wallpapers.

That’s everything added in this month’s Rust Meta Shift Update. Hopefully, the update brings a new wave of both new and old players as they come to try the new meta changes and progression systems for themselves. Look forward to additional coverage of this update on our blog. See you next time!
