Rust’s high external walls have always been regarded as the best way to cut off large areas of the map with very few tradeoffs other than the initial cost. All that changes with the Power Trip update, however, as high external walls will now have an upkeep cost. The goal of this change is to prevent griefing in which players will cut off access to parts of the map using high external walls. Follow along as we teach you exactly how the new Rust high external upkeep feature works.
High external walls can be either crafted or found. A High External Wooden Wall can be researched in the tier 1 workbench or found in Brown Crates or on the bodies of certain Scientists. Once researched, the wall can be crafted for only 4000 wood. The High External Stone Wall is slightly harder to find, with it being found most commonly in military crates, locked crates, or on heavy scientists. It can also be researched in a tier 2 workbench and crafted for 4000 stone and a sheet metal.

Rust’s high externals have a static upkeep cost of 20%. This means the upkeep costs 20% of the recipe’s cost daily. 800 wood is needed daily for upkeep of each High External Wooden Wall, while 800 stone will be needed daily for upkeep of each High External Stone Wall. The change will deter players from spamming walls or making large compounds.

That covers everything you need to know about Rust’s new high external wall upkeep system. Hopefully this new system prevents servers from being griefed. If you enjoyed this blog, feel free to check out our blog covering Rust’s Legacy Wood Wall & Gate DLC. See you next time!
