Have you ever lost a CS2 round, and the only reason was that your team ran out of time to defuse the bomb? Of course you have, that’s been part of the Counter-Strike experience forever. Reasons vary per situation, but one of the more unforgivable causes comes down to the fact that no one had a defuse kit.
These inexpensive items, which may or may not be used during the course of a round, reduce the bomb defuse timer by half, quite literally buying your team more time to work around the bomb site. Having too many or too few (or even none at all) of these defuse kits can harm a Counter-Terrorist team, so the question remains: who really needs to buy them?
Sure, having multiple defuse kits is definitely ideal, but not everyone has to own one each round. This can be wasteful, especially when the money is looking pretty tight. The CT economy is already challenging on its own, so every extra $400 could make or break the game’s momentum for your squad.

Ideally, 2-3 people on the team should have a defuse kit when possible during standard buy rounds. It doesn’t matter too much how good the player with a kit is, since this is a droppable item upon death. Figuring out who has more wiggle room in terms of individual finances should be the biggest factor here, upon deciding who needs to add one to their loadout for the round.

The defuse kit is not that expensive, but in the early rounds, $400 goes a long way. Pistol rounds change the rules a bit, given the extremely limited economy, so the 2-3 people standard goes down to at least just one guy sacrificing his second round buys for the team.

On the contrary, if your team has a large surplus of cash and has been racking up wins in consecutive rounds, it wouldn’t hurt for everyone on the team to carry one with them. This eliminates the burden of having to figure out where your teammate dropped their kit after getting killed.
