CS2 Announces That Cache Is Finally Returning

It’s official: Cache is coming to CS2. Cache was a CS:GO Map beloved by fans ever since its addition to the active-duty map pool back in 2014. The map has undergone many changes since, with a major overhaul way back in 2019. However, ever since the major overhaul, the map would never come back to Counter-Strike’s competitive map pool for over seven years. That changes next week, however, as the developers have finally announced the return of Cache for CS2.

CS2 Tweet Announces Cache’s Return

The return of Cache has been in the air for months, as the developers originally purchased the rights to the map back in May of 2025. However, the developers did not begin teasing its arrival until April 1st, when they began to reply to tweets begging for the map back. It was further teased on April 22nd, when the developers updated their banner to show off a small section of the reworked Cache map. The big announcement came when CS2 ominously tweeted, “What are you doing next week?” along with a highlight reel of some of Cache’s famous moments from history.

CS2 Reworked Cache

When Cache was originally brought to CS2 by FMPONE, players immediately highlighted many performance issues included in the unoptimized map. Due to the amount of assets, a hefty rig was required to run the map with stable FPS, which is suboptimal for a competitive shooter. However, CS2’s banner update reveals updated textures not included in FMPONES CS2 Cache release, hinting at a potential full overhaul. The banner revealed a section of T-Spawn, which looked modernized and improved since they had originally bought the rights.

How to Play Cache in CS2 Now

If you have been dying to play Cache in CS2 and cannot wait for the official release with the remade version, look no further than the Steam Workshop. FMPONE’s community version of Cache is still available to the public for players to access. It is important to know that this version of the game’s map is still unoptimized and could lead to performance issues. The map features may be inaccurate from its release due to Valve’s changes, though it has the map’s classic layout for those looking to explore and reminisce.

The Cache Collection

The return of Cache could also potentially include a modernized CS2 Cache Collection. Changes to the Armory are expected as the developers announced several collections that will soon be rotated out. The move could make room for a brand new collection or the return of the original one which included classic skins like the Glock-18 Reactor. With a new version of the iconic map returning, why not add a fresh collection to go with it?

That covers the entirety of Cache’s introduction to CS2 and its return to the competitive map pool. Let’s hope the developers cooked with the addition of this classic CS map.
