Jumpthrows have been a part of the Counter-Strike experience forever. They’re a common practice when setting up executes using a lot of utility, helping throw grenades over certain obstacles. Jump throw binds were especially common in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, as a single key press granted you precision like no other. The timing of the character jump and the grenade throw became connected to each other through the jumpthrow bind, which was usually mapped to a key that was not being used.

How Do Jumpthrow Binds Work in Counter-Strike?

The specific commands for the jump (typically the space bar) and shoot (typically the left click) would have to be input into the same command, which was then associated with a random key. Upon pressing, your in-game character would jump and fire at the same time, completing both actions at once with the correct timing. If you didn’t have a grenade out, one attack from your weapon would take place instead.

In addition to other forms of automation or scripting, such as Razer’s Snap Tap feature, Jump Throw binds are no longer allowed in Counter-Strike 2. In addition, they mentioned that the improvements made to CS2 from CS:GO negate the need for a jumpthrow bind in the first place when pulling off utility-focused executes.

Just like Razer’s Snap Tap technology, anyone that will take advantage of a jump throw bind these days will be subject to a corresponding VAC ban for cheating. Valve has doubled down on their push for more natural input and development of said hand-eye coordination skills for CS players, which are also reasons for banning any form of automation, such as the jump throw bind.
