Should You Use the CS2 Follow Recoil Crosshair?

Spray patterns have been a challenge for generations, but with CS2’s follow-recoil crosshair feature, the learning curve has also become a lot less steep. Recoil patterns and overall spray control are two things in Counter-Strike that are considered fundamentals of the game, but mastery of such has only ever been achieved by a rare group of the total player base. While a moderately commonly used feature, most professional and veteran players’ crosshairs remain static — so should you even use the CS2 follow recoil crosshair?

Enabling Follow Recoil in CS2 Takes Getting Used To

For most players who have been with the franchise way before CS2, static crosshair has really always been the only way to go, especially in any true competitive environment. That’s why suddenly altering your crosshair to follow a weapon’s recoil pattern is going to be such a big initial difference that it’s gonna take a few rounds or even a whole game to get used to.

Then again, at a certain level, players don’t need it anymore. If you’re someone who’s consistently hitting high ratings in Premier mode or even Black ranks back in Global Offensive, weapon recoil is already muscle memory for you, where the follow recoil option doesn’t even do much.

The Follow Recoil Crosshair is Solid for New Players

The following recoil setting works in a way that you simply have to move your mouse to keep the crosshair on the enemy at all times, and for a newer player, that might be easier to understand than learning spray patterns one by one.

It gives you a good understanding of bullet spread, though it doesn’t account for movement accuracy or inaccuracy, but then again, sprays are typically done standing still in the first place. The crosshair becomes a target that players can aim at and point towards enemies instead of having to rely on precise mouse movement for the spray.

The Verdict: The CS2 Follow Recoil Crosshair is a Preference

At the end of the day, the CS2 follow recoil setting is extremely helpful and is a more than welcome addition to the game experience, but not everyone needs it.

If you’re someone who struggles with spray patterns, then by all means try it out, but for those veterans of the game who’ve made it this far with a static crosshair, then just disable follow recoil and stick to the classic experience.
