Key Positions in Inferno
Inferno is a bomb defusal map featuring two bomb sites for the Terrorists to plant at. With the map oriented so that T spawn is at the west side of the map and Decond Mid is at the bottom, let’s go over some key positions of Inferno.
-
T Spawn – T Spawn is where all Terrorists start each round. T Spawn is located at the westmost point of the map. asd
-
CT Spawn – CT Spawn is where all Counter-Terrorists start each round. CT Spawn is located at the northeast corner of the map. asd
-
A Site – A Site is the first of two bomb sites on Inferno. A Site is located at the southeast corner of the map. asd
-
B Site – B Site is the second of two bomb sites on Inferno. B Site is located at the northwest corner of the map. asd
-
Middle – Middle provides a direct sightline between the CT and T players and often provides the first encounter. Middle is located horizontally and runs across the map, slightly south of the true middle of the map. asd
-
Second Mid – Second Mid runs parallel to Middle and is also available for both teams to pick fights early in the round. Second Mid is located on the south side of the map, running horizontally parallel to Middle. asd
-
Banana – Banana is the main route to the B bomb site. Banana is located running vertically on the south side of the map. asd
-
Apartments – Apartments is a complex hallway system leading to the A site. Apartments is located southwest of the A bomb site. asd
Timing of Contested Areas in Inferno
Learning the timings of important areas to control can perhaps be the most important aspect of taking map control. This CS2 Inferno Guide introduces you to some timings of when you can expect enemy positions to be, allowing you to take control of key areas easily.
Mid Timing – Mid is the main area of this iconic map and is the center for information gathering for both teams. The Terrorists do have the advantage here, however, reaching lower Mid first, forcing the defenders to take the initiative and peak if they chose to do so.
Banana Timing – Banana is another crucial area of Inferno, emphasized by professional players in competitive play who oftentimes dump thousands of dollars in grenades every round just to fight for Banana control. CTs will arrive at Banana, while T players arrive at bottom Banana. T players will arrive slightly faster to the angle, establishing control over the banana wall. Overall, however, CT players will have banana control and are tasked with defending the T-side attack from reaching past the banana wall.
Counter-Terrorist’s Strategies
The recommended split for the best defense on our CS2 Inferno Guide is a 3-2 split, with three players near the A site and two players defending the B site.
A – 3 Players
The three players defending A should be split, with two players establishing crossfire watching Mid and one establishing control in Apartments (Apps)/Boiler room. The two players taking control of Mid should gather as much information on their opponents as possible, including where the T players are positioning, either preparing to attack Banana or run down Mid. Grenade usage is key – if T players are rushing mid, simply throw a smoke in the Mid entrance and establish a crossfire with one player short and one player long watching the smoke. The player in Apartments must gather information on Second Mid. Remember, team communication is key! If there’s a hole in the defense, defenders should retreat back to safe angles, including Pit and the corner of A site.
B – 2 Players
For the B players, grenade usage is everything. The two players should always have four grenades ready – 1 flash, one incendiary grenade, one smoke grenade, and 1 HE grenade. The two players that defend Banana can coordinate a strategy, including a nade stack at Banana or even a boost spot, such as on top of the flower pots. Armed with molotovs and smokes, the chokehold is easily defendable, and if there is a full-out rush by the Terrorist team, time can easily be bought for a Counter-Terrorist rotate.
Terrorists’ Strategies
Inferno allows for crazy strategic depth, with near-infinite splits your team can perform to take map control. Just like with the CT strategies, throwing grenades is key to your success. Our CS2 Inferno Guide highlights just some reliable strategies your team can perform.
A Site Push
A site on Inferno is one of the hardest sites to take, with near-infinite angles to check once you arrive on site. To start, there should be a 3-2 split between Mid and Second Mid. The players Mid should throw a long smoke and make their way short. The players pushing Second Mid should make their way into apartments, with one player pushing the balcony while one player meets the rest of the team Mid through the boiler room. Molotovs and smokes should be thrown to clear key angles.
B Site Push
B site can be one of the most frustrating sites to take in all of Counter-Strike, especially with the heavy utility presence. One annoying CT smoke can kill all momentum in your team’s push. To start, it’s a good idea to wait a few seconds outside Banana just to wait out the CT utility. One player should throw a Molotov at the Banana barrels/car just to take care of any snipers or CT players hiding in there. Once you reach barrels/car, make sure to clear sandbags, and a coordinated molotov strike can be thrown onto the site. The molotovs will be key in helping your team clear sneaky angles, and a smoke lineup to CT spawn can also be thrown.
