The Retakes Gamemode is Back in CS2’s Latest Update

The new Re-Retakes CS2 update reintroduces CS:GO’s Retake game mode, which hasn’t been available since CS2 replaced CS:GO in September 2023. After a long wait, players can finally return to Retake mode to hone their skills in high-stakes gameplay scenarios.

Retake Mode is Back to CS2

The Retake game mode was reintroduced to CS2 with the Re-Retakes update. With the game mode comes two map pools to select from, with a total of 9 maps available. Defusal Group Alpha contains Dust 2, Mirage, Inferno, and Vertigo, while Defusal Group Delta includes Train, Anubis, Ancient, Overpass, and Nuke.

If you are inexperienced with the game mode, the rounds begin in the post-plant scenario, with each player able to choose from a selection of loadout cards, with different loadout cards appearing as the game progresses. After choosing a loadout card, the round will begin in a 4v3 scenario with four Counter-Terrorists taking on the opposing three Terrorists. The loadouts given offer limited resources to challenge players into thinking strategically and working together.
