The Best Vertigo CS2 Strategies: Master T Side Utility Usage

Of all the maps in the Counter-Strike franchise, Vertigo has got to be one of the most unique battlefields that Valve has ever put into the game. The attacking side on this specific map has been blessed with lots of different lineups and overall strategies for securing any location on Vertigo.

Though meticulously planned utility usage in online matchmaking or even local LAN events isn’t commonly seen in games played on Vertigo as compared to Mirage or Dust 2, even having base-level information of effective smokes and molotovs can go a long way, especially when hard stuck in elo hell.

Vertigo A Site Terrorist Utility

A control on Vertigo as the T Side relies on two things most of the time: Ramp control and blocking off the area around Heaven/Elevator Room/Default A Site. There will almost always be a defending player primarily positioned to defend Ramp, and it’s not uncommon for this player to be holding a Scout or even an AWP.

Given the layout of the map, that fight might just have to come down to a straight mechanical duel – but that doesn’t mean taking A Site can’t be aided by simple utility usage. So many different smokes can be thrown around the same Ramp/Scaffolding area, which is advantageous for the Ts since they don’t need to peek out into more open spots just to line up their utility.

Vertigo B Site Terrorist Utility

B Site can sometimes be trickier than the other bomb site to take, particularly because of the awkward angle when trying to peek out into B Stairs or getting past the CT-filled defense of Mid. Compared to A Site, however, there’s a whole lot more room to play with when it comes to utility on this part of the map.

HE Grenades or molotovs towards Catwalk/Back B are usually thrown early into a round to disrupt enemy positions, while multiple smokes around the E Box area are dropped when the push to get the bomb down is ready.

The planting area on B Site is usually right behind the stacked red boxes since they provide the best cover from pretty much anything. However, as discussed in our CT-Side guide, there’s an easy utility combination that can be thrown to this exact spot just from Connector, so it’s always handy to keep that in mind.

Vertigo Mid-Round Rotations

Ts and CTs rotate on this map in pretty much the same way, either through Mid on the upper floor or the lower floor’s path connecting Ramp and Underpass. Especially since rotations on the attacking side happen before the bomb goes down, Terrorist side rotations are quite limited to whichever parts of the map the defenders don’t have a strong hold on just yet.
