The Best Inferno CS2 Strategies: Master CT Side Utility Usage

One of the most iconic maps in all of Counter-Strike, Inferno has played host to some of the greatest games of all time. Gaining an iconic reputation from usually being the final map selected in a best-of-three or best-of-five series, Inferno presents a challenging experience due to its layout, which requires a combination of both mechanical ability and game sense at a high level.

With so many sharp corners, rooms, and off-angles on Inferno, there’s always a significant amount of strategic depth required, especially in competitive play.

A Site Counter-Terrorist Utility

Inferno’s A Site can be viewed as the polar opposite of the bomb site when it comes to design. It’s presented as an open space with lots of entry points and hiding spots, making it a challenge for both the Counter-Terrorists and Terrorists each round.

With so many places to defend from, CTs usually benefit from utility usage that blocks off advances through the Mid area and coming outside of Apartments. A player going aggressively into Apartments can throw a Molotov towards the intersection of Stairs, Apps Hallway, and Window Room.

Alternatively, anyone who is able to secure control of Window Room early can throw a Molotov deep towards Stairs instead to completely cut off the Terrorists’ ability to even enter Apartments. This will cause them to stay around Mid or Second Mid, and potentially force a rotate towards B instead.

The most commonly smoked area on A Site from the CT perspective is the Top Mid gap, usually to allow players to cross over to Boiler Room/Apartments undetected and unharmed, especially against a Terrorist AWPer waiting.

Finally, both Mid and Second Mid are usually recipients of multiple thrown Incendiary Grenades and HE Grenades early on, since these are areas that the attackers commonly push up quickly during the start of every round.

B Site Counter-Terrorist Utility

CT players holding B Site are given lots of room to get crafty with the amount of sharp corners they can use as hiding spots from approaching T Side players. At the beginning of each round, it’s usually common practice for two players holding B Site to throw Incendiary Grenades to both the close corner of Banana just behind the wall and to the back part close to Logs.

This is done combined with HE Grenades, also thrown down the stretch of Banana after the fire-spreading explosives go down. Not only will the Incendiary Grenades block off movement, but the HE Grenades will punish anyone still trapped in Banana and possibly earn the CTs a kill out of it.

Since Banana is the only area leading into B Site that isn’t CT-controlled by default, it also happens to be the sole focus of CT players each and every round. Despite this, Banana is in no way, shape, or form a CT-sided position, and there will always be occasions where the T players just push up better than the CTs can defend.

Mid-Round Rotations

Inferno mid-round scenarios play heavily around Mid and Second Mid, given that it also happens to be the largest part of the map. When the CT players on A Site are able to push up and clear angles deep into Mid, this opens up more opportunities to collapse on the attacking players from both sides.

Alternatively, when A Site is the one that the Terrorists have better control over, the designated B players typically pass through Banana into Mid to go one of three directions: B Apartments for the high ground, A Short for close corner fighting (especially since one of the most common planting spots can be easily seen from A Short), or A Long/Moto for those more comfortable in long range engagements and open spaces.
