There have been many snipers in the long history of Counter-Strike that have all earned their flowers from being the best of the best. From Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev, to Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, and even Ladislav “GuardiaN” Kovács, these guys are all the very best at what they do. But when it comes to AWPing, there is only one man in the whole world that the conversation of the greatest sniper of all time leads to. That person is Kenny “kennyS” Schrub.
The single most controversial AWP nerf of 2015, which is also one of the most controversial nerfs to any weapon in CS history, can be attributed to the sheer dominance that kennyS displayed wielding the weapon during Global Offensive’s early days. How does it even get more impactful than that? Imagine being so good at a single weapon far beyond the capabilities of the rest of the competitive scene that the game’s developers actively searched for a way to make it weaker.
That was the power kennyS wielded in the early years of CS:GO, and even despite the nerf to make his beloved weapon a lot less deadly, he was always still the best at it.

Go and search for any AWPing compilation on the internet at random, and chances are you will be redirected to one of two things: a montage of kennyS’ shots, or a fragmovie that features a large amount of kennyS’ highlights. In a meta where snipers were usually seen as relatively passive and focused on securing kills from the back line, kennyS pioneered the ultra-aggressive battle AWPer style of pushing forward and even being the first player on his team to initiate contact.

His lightning-fast reflexes are also one of the key aspects of his game, pulling off nearly impossible shots every single time that pretty much only he can do. Some of the modern greats, such as Nikola “NiKo” Kovač, were influenced greatly by kennyS’ fearless playstyle, and it shows in the way they approach their game as well.

kennyS means to French Counter-Strike the passion, the flicks and someone who always took time for his fans while performing at the highest level. When you talk about kennyS, French people are proud.
– Richard “shox” Papillon

kennyS has since retired from the competitive scene, but will always be remembered as the greatest AWPer of all time and also one of the most impactful Counter-Strike players to ever live. He is currently focused on bringing his influence and love for CS to China and Asia as a whole, serving as an ambassador for the game in the region to help organize more top-tier competitions.

Thanks to his efforts, the first-ever Asian CS Major Championship was held last 2024 in the form of the Perfect World Shanghai Major. He first built a legacy for up-and-coming AWPers to follow in his footsteps, and he is now growing the game in a different way, yet with the same passion and dedication he always had as a player. Talk about a legend.
