The Counter-Strike franchise has long been one of the most successful PC titles of all time, and even in the era of CS2, that’s no different. CS2 has been on top of Steam’s leaderboards when it comes to pretty much everything related to success for years now as a true juggernaut in the PC gaming community.
But when it comes to console releases for the PlayStation or Xbox series, you really don’t hear anything about Counter-Strike. It’s not rare for FPS games to succeed both on a gaming PC and a dedicated major console, so will CS2 ever do the same?
It might not be common knowledge, but past installments of the Counter-Strike franchise have made their way to consoles. The original Xbox had the first CS title, and there was also a Global Offensive release for both the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Even if you’re a hardcore console gamer, you still probably never knew that CS:GO had relatively modern console version releases. They didn’t really take off, unlike the traditional PC game, and just became forgotten in time.
You really won’t see anyone calling for a console release of Counter-Strike, and even for that reason alone, why would Valve go through all the trouble to consider such a thing? The PC version of CS has been successful for far too long that a mouse and keyboard have definitely been viewed as the only way to play the game in the first place.

Even if there were any demand for a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S version of CS2, there’s also no way to completely incorporate everything that completes the experience from Steam to two very different consoles.
They tried during an era where Counter-Strike was arguably its strongest in terms of popularity compared to FPS titles of any platform, and it still failed. The only thing Valve can expect to happen if they make another attempt these days is straight failure.
Everything from the community servers, controls, skins, marketplace, and pretty much all things CS you can think of really won’t exist the same way on console as they do on PC. For those reasons and so many more that haven’t been named, it’s really unlikely that the game will ever see the light of day on console again.
