Primitive Rust Update Announced

With January’s patch being light, only fixing a couple of bugs and issues, Facepunch has gone ahead and announced Rust’s February update early. The update is being called the “Primitive” update and will completely reimagine Rust’s early game. The update introduces siege vehicles, primitive weapons, shields, and its very own game mode, all of which we will cover in this article.

Siege Vehicles

Early-game raiding in Rust is being completely reimagined by the Primitive update with the introduction of Siege Vehicles. These include a siege tower, catapult, ballista, and battering ram, all of which will be able to cause severe damage to players and their bases.

Siege Tower

The first Siege Vehicle being added to Rust by the Primitive update is the Siege Tower. The vehicle can be used to elevate players over external walls while being able to remain behind cover. It can he horse-drawn or pushed and even has drawbridges attached.

Catapult

The Catapult is built for longer distances being able to project boulders, radioactive barrels, and propane tanks across long distances. It can be hard to aim, meaning sometimes you have to worry, hope you hit your target, and don’t miss.

Ballista

The Ballista is a highly accurate, long-range weapon capable of damaging players, NPCs, doors, and vehicles with a lot of ammo types and massive projectiles. Be careful stepping into the path of one of these deadly machines of destruction as you will be playing with your life.

Battering Ram

The Battering Ram is the final siege vehicle added by Rust’s Primitive update, it is pretty simple being a drivable vehicle that is able to ram into anything it wants. It can do damage to buildings as you continue to ram into them over and over. It uses low-grade fuel, making it easy to power up and take wherever you need.

Other Features

Alongside the features mentioned, the Rust developers also announced a variety of new shields, a 4-shot mini crossbow, a rework to melee weapons, improvements to horses, and plenty of new skins all coming with the Primitive update in February.

Rust Recap

The developers also recapped the 2024 year, noting the many features added this year. This includes a full terrain update, motorbikes, and bicycles that spawn at monuments, backpacks to carry more items, tons of changes to server events such as the cargo ship rework, a variable zoom scope, five new weapons, and plenty of quality-of-life changes, items, and fixes.

The Rust “Primitive” update is set to go live to servers this year on the first Thursday of the coming month of February. If you’re unable to wait you can load up this version of Rust in its beta form on the Rust staging Aux2 branch, however, be weary that you may run into errors, issues, and other problems that come with an unfinished version of the game.
