FalleN Announces Retirement from Counter-Strike After 2026

It’s been 23 years since he started his career in Counter-Strike, but it seems like the final installment for Brazil’s GOAT will be CS2. FalleN, whose real name is Gabriel Toledo, announced that 2026 will be his last year as a professional CS player.

He isn’t stepping away from the game entirely, as he did announce he was looking forward to doing other things within CS, but The Professor’s retirement is his own way of acknowledging that his time on the server is coming to an end.

From 1.6 to CS2, FalleN Has a Legacy That’s Unmatched

FalleN was already playing at the highest level in both CS 1.6 and Source, but it really wasn’t until the mid-2010s of the Global Offensive era that he truly shone. Captaining the Brazilian teams of Luminosity and SK, FalleN won back-to-back Major Championships in 2016 and finished as the second-best player in the world only behind teammate Marcelo “coldzera” David.

His accolades don’t stop there either. He followed up on his world-class 2016 run the following year by winning eight Big Event trophies and placing on HLTV’s year-end Top 20 ranking yet again, this time in sixth place.

While trophies eluded him for years, his most successful stint of the post-pandemic era came in 2025 as the IGL of FURIA. FalleN added the FISSURE Playground 2, Thunderpick World Championship 2025, IEM Chengdu 2025, and BLAST Rivals 2025 Season 2 trophies to his already decorated cabinet.

The Final Days

The first half of 2026 hasn’t been the greatest for both FalleN and FURIA, with multiple early exits and an unfortunate fourth-place result in front of their home crowd at IEM Rio.

His announcement officially happened during FURIA’s playoff run at the tournament with a heartfelt speech inside Rio’s Farmasi Arena.

There are currently over 240 days til the end of the year and the end of FalleN’s professional CS career. The whole world has enjoyed watching The Professor for more than 8,500 days, and the last 200 or so will definitely be even more special.
