The second edition of Counter-Strike at the Esports World Cup has just wrapped up, with a (not-so) surprise champion crowned this year! Despite a stacked lineup of teams with championship pedigree, such as Vitality, Natus Vincere, and Team Spirit taking the stage, it was The MongolZ who took home first place to secure only their second-ever LAN trophy in organization history.
Sixteen qualified teams competed for the lion’s share of the $1,250,000 prize pool, and after five days of action, it was none other than the greatest Asian Counter-Strike team of all time that bagged the crown.
Gone are the days of Asian CS teams being completely overlooked at international competitions, and that can be pretty much attributed to the success that The MongolZ have had since last year.
They completely changed the landscape of the game, not just in their region but throughout the whole world, and after a few playoff runs that were considered “fairytale” events, they finally scored a big one.

Of all the participants at EWC’s CS2 tournament for 2025, The MongolZ were always expected to make a deep run at the event, but not necessarily take the competition overall, especially since Vitality were right on the opposite end of their bracket.
They finally met in the semi-final in what was probably the biggest match of EWC 2025, and this time, The MongolZ got their revenge on Vitality for the loss they suffered at the BLAST.tv Austin Major.

With their biggest adversaries out of the way, The MongolZ dominantly swept Aurora 3-0 to clinch the EWC 2025 CS2 trophy. Sodbayar “Techno4K” Munkhbold was awarded the first-ever HLTV MVP award of his life following a near-flawless performance throughout the entire event.
The all-Turkish Aurora have been on an upward trend as of late, but that still doesn’t mean that they were on a lot of people’s lists to make a deep run at EWC 2025, much less make the grand final of the whole thing. But they did.

Aurora’s first matchup was against FaZe in a series where every single member of the international team underperformed, with the exception of Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski, who completely hard-carried his team in all three maps.
The efforts of one man were not enough to deny Aurora, however, as the Turkish side secured a spot in the quarters with a 2-1 series score.
Ismailcan “XANTARES” Dörtkardeş dropped back-to-back standout performances in their next two series, pulling off 2-0 sweeps of both HEROIC and home crowd favorites Falcons to reach their first international LAN final of the whole year.

However, unfortunately, as we’ve all seen many times before, fairy tales sometimes have to come to an end. Aurora lost 0-3 in the final to the most in-form The MongolZ squad ever, but still took home second place at EWC 2025 and $230,000 in prize money.
The hometown team wasn’t able to go all the way in the championship, but they did contribute massively to their parent organization’s EWC Club Championship. Falcons’ CS2 division reached the semi-final of the tournament but were humbled by Aurora in a 0-2 defeat, putting an end to their championship aspirations.
Instead of fighting for first place, they were put into one final series for the last podium spot in the EWC tournament for CS2. The only problem, however, was that they had to face the #1 team of the entire year so far — Vitality.
The first map, Inferno, went Vitality’s way after a dominant second half in which Falcons were limited to only one round victory the rest of the way after starting 8-4. The next two maps, however, were a completely different story.
Nikola “NiKo” Kovač dropped one of his most exceptional performances of the year on Train with a 25-6 K-D record together with a massive 2.43 HLTV Rating 3.0 as he led Falcons to a 13-3 stomp of the defending Major winners.
In the final game on Nuke, it was “Baby GOAT” Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov’s time to shine as the young superstar AWPer reached an Average Damage per Round (ADR) of 104.1 and dropped a map-high 17 kills. His performance secured yet another 13-3 game for Falcons, and ultimately third place at EWC.
