Counter-Strike 2 has brought a wealth of new changes to the game, one of which being a new and revamped XP system. The CS2 XP system is an essential part of the game’s progression system, allowing players to level up, show their dedication to the game, and unlock rewards. Players who grind the game regularly, however, may find their amount of XP gained per game suddenly hit a wall, significantly reducing their XP gains. In this article, we’ll cover the XP system, the CS2 weekly drop system, and why your CS2 XP is reduced.

Before we delve into the specifics, let’s review what XP even is. XP, which stands for experience points, is a system that many video games, including Counter-Strike 2, use. XP could be used to indicate skill level, though it’s not the same as a competitive rank in Premier or Competitive Maps. CS2 XP is calculated based on many different factors, including:

It’s important to note that XP is only significant for players with Prime status. Free-to-play players won’t earn any special rewards for playing and gaining XP.
Players with Prime Status may have already encountered this neat feature, being the weekly drops. Upon leveling up, players will receive four special rewards to choose from: one case, one weapon skin, and two graffiti. The weekly drop pool in Counter-Strike 2 is a much-welcomed change by the Counter-Strike community, where previously, in Counter-Strike Global Offensive, players are randomly awarded a reward without getting a choice in the reward given.
Active Drop Pool – The active drop pool is the rotating rewards pool from which players can choose. The active pool for cases currently (September 2024) consists of the Kilowatt Case, the Revolution Case, the Recoil Case, the Dreams & Nightmares Case, and the Fracture Case. Weapon drops typically consist of skins of industrial-grade (light blue) quality.
Getting to the big question, CS2 XP Reduction is a system implemented by Valve to promote sustained gameplay. Here are some reasons you may have reduced XP.
Note that reaching this weekly XP limit or having reduced XP will not affect competitive ranks, so you’re good to grind all you want.
