Best Cases To Open in CS2 – July 2024

You should probably avoid opening cases in CS2. Doing so is like depositing money into a casino with an 80% house edge; you are practically guaranteed to lose money. If you haven’t opened cases in CS2 yet, you should probably avoid starting.

…but if you have already committed to opening cases in CS2 and nothing we can say will change your mind, then you might as well learn the best cases to open in CS2. That way, we can’t stop you from losing money, but we can ensure you get the highest return on investment possible. At the end of the day, opening cases isn’t the best way to win money, but if you are going to try, you might as well maximize your chances of getting at least some return on your investment. So, instead of opening all of your case drops, let’s learn which ones to buy by looking at the best CS2 cases to open.

See a regularly updated database of the best cases to open in CS2 here: https://csroi.com.

Kilowatt Case

Coming in first place with a staggering 69.82% return on investment but just a 4.63% chance to profit, the Kilowatt Case takes the crown as the best CS2 case to open. When opening this case, as long as you get a Classified(pink), Covert(red), or a Knife(Gold), you are guaranteed to make a profit. Look out for reds, which have an average value of $74.21, over $70 of profit from the $3.27 for the case and key. On average, for every case and key you buy, you will get back $2.28 for a loss of $0.39.

CS:GO Weapon Case 2

When opening the Weapon Case 2, your best chance for pulling profit is getting a pink or better. While purples have an average value of $12.22, that’s still a significant loss from the $17 cost of the case + key. The case has a 65.56% ROI – lower than the Kilowatt Case – and a 5.94% chance to profit – higher than the Kilowatt Case. When opening this case, you will lose an average of $5.85 for each case you open, with an average item drop value of $11.15.

CS:GO Weapon Case 3

This case may be cheaper than its predecessor, but it doesn’t have higher odds. With an unboxing ROI of 63.12%, this case is quite difficult to break even when opening just one, but its 7.98% chance to profit makes it a bit better for larger unboxings. Don’t be fooled when opening this case; you DO NOT want the red! Purples have an average value of more than 4x that of the covert in the CS:GO Weapon Case 3, but they still aren’t enough to save you from likely losses.

Operation Wildfire Case

The Operation Wildfire case doesn’t seem too profitable from an outside view. Most of the skins are pretty boring and cheap. But believe it or not, this is one of the best CS2 cases to open. With a case and key cost of $5, you have a 63.02% return on investment but just a 5.05% chance to profit. However, if you get a pink, red(hope it’s the AK!), or gold, you can get a pretty solid return up to $560. Just be prepared to lose around $1.85 every time you open this case.

eSports 2013 Winter Case

One of CS2’s oldest cases, the eSports 2013 Winter Case, may not be a new face around the block, but it sure is profitable compared to other cases on this list. Barely falling into the top 5 best CS2 cases to open with an unboxing ROI of 59.85%, this case finds the most success in the chance to profit category, where it scores a whopping 8.61% chance to profit – not far from double that of the Kilowatt Case! With this case, anything pink or better will bring some solid profit, and if you get the suitable Knife skin, you may walk away from an eSports 2013 Winter Case $2500 richer!

Prisma Case

Just barely behind 5th place, the Prisma Case has an unboxing ROI of 59.21% and a chance to profit of just 3.52%, making it the hardest case to find profit on in this list of the best CS2 cases to open. Your only chance to get some profit lies in Coverts and Knife Skins because even pulling only the Classified skins will lose you an average of $1 per opening. Pulling a knife skin, however, can make you upwards of $1300 if you get the right skin and an average of $450 across all the skins inside the case.

Operation Phoenix Weapon Case

If you are looking for the thrill of a high-risk, high-reward case opening, then the Operation Phoenix Weapon Case is a great choice. With a 59.13% average return on investment and a 4.32% chance to profit, the Operation Phoenix Weapon Case definitely isn’t easy to profit on, but when you do find a profit, it’s a great day. The average price of the knives, in this case, is $625, with some lucky knife unboxes granting $2500, or even more if the unboxer gets a good pattern Karambit | case Hardened.

Shadow Case

Holding up the rear of our best cases to open in CS2 is the Shadow Case, home of the Shadow Daggers. However, despite the case’s namesake, you are better off getting covert skins than knives because they are much easier to get and not significantly cheaper than extraordinary special items. The case has an average ROI of around 59% and a chance to profit of 5.76%. Statistically, you will lose an average of $0.93 every time you open the Shadow Case.

Increase your Profitability by Buying Cases for Cheaper

By paying less for cases, you can increase your total return on investment. To find cheaper cases, look at third-party marketplaces and trading sites, where prices are miles below the Steam Community Market.
