From the insane quarterfinal defeats to the Grand Final of the Major playoffs, the IEM Cologne Major 2026 will go down in history as one of the greatest of all time. The final battle between FURIA and Falcons even reached a peak viewership so high that it broke the all-time record set five years ago by an equally legendary Major Grand Final.

There’s really no hyperbole that can capture what it felt like to watch the whole tournament unfold. Truly, one of the Counter-Strike Majors of all time.

Vitality is Not Invincible

Vitality came into Cologne on the verge of recreating the history set by five Danish players back in 2018-19, and after their group stage performance, it looked destined. Unfortunately for them, one man’s destiny was stronger than all of theirs combined.

Vitality got knocked out in the very first round of the playoffs after a grueling marathon series against the Falcons, where all three maps went the distance with 13-11 scores. In the end, the Falcons got their Cologne moment and defeated the #1 team in the whole world 2-1.

FalleN’s Run Ended At Midnight

If Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo won the IEM Cologne Major 2026 with FURIA, he honestly could’ve retired right then and there with the perfect send-off. Sometimes, though, fairy tales have to come to an end without the perfect conclusion.

It’s pretty much accepted that the IEM Cologne Major 2026 might’ve been FalleN’s last great chance at winning the big one for a third time, but more than that, the whole world is just grateful to have seen him take the stage again before he rides off into the sunset.

The organization’s victory is controversial for reasons pertaining to ownership and administration, but when it comes to the players themselves, there’s no question about it. All their hard work and heartbreak have been made worth it by having reached the promised land for (mostly) the first time ever.
