CS2 Trade Reversals: Valve Introduces Trade Protection in CS2 Trade Update

In Counter-Strike 2’s latest update, which commemorated both the end of Premier Season 2 and the start of Season 3, Valve introduced a new feature exclusive to CS2 (at least for the time being): the concept of trade protection and the ability to reverse CS2 trades.

In the latest blog post, titled “Season Two: Episode One,” Valve officially announced that players will now have the option to reverse trades made from their account. This was primarily done to combat scams and account fraud.

Traded CS2 skins will now be “trade protected” for seven days after being traded, and during any period before that trade-protected status expires, users can reverse the trade, also reversing the trades of all other items still under trade protection.

How To Reverse CS2 Skin Trades

Reversing trades is easy, but it definitely comes with its consequences as well. The process is simple – just navigate to your “Trade History” page and go from there. Choosing to reverse trades will result in every deal made within a seven-day period being reversed, regardless of whether or not it was a legitimate trade.

After doing this, your Steam Account will be given a trade hold, and you will also be forbidden from using the Steam Community Market for 30 days. There is no way to remove both of these cooldown periods.

Any trade that was made prior to the update will not be included in the seven-day period, as these items do not classify as trade-protected items.

Is CS2 Trade Reversal Good or Bad?

In a nutshell, yes, this update is generally helpful, especially when it comes to its main reason for existing. Losing access to a Steam account is not anything new or uncommon, and with the amount of third-party websites that exist connected to Counter-Strike 2, Valve saw this as a way to further protect their players.

However, this also has an effect on Steam trading as a whole that isn’t entirely positive. As of July 2025 when the update came about, CS2 is the only game supporting trade protection. This means that only Counter-Strike 2 items are considered trade-protected items, and based on Steam’s FAQs regarding the update, players are restricted from trading items between a game that has trade protection and one that does not.

In short, CS2 items can now only be traded for fellow CS2 items, and nothing else.
