Rust Update Monthly Overview – 11/7/24

Welcome to this month’s update overview, which will cover all the features being added to Rust’s most recent patch. This massive Rust update brings two new guns, a new DLC, a new wolf AI, and more. This update will come with a wipe, which will reset every server.

Rust Skin Guides

Handmade SMG

The first edition being added in this month’s update is one of two new guns. This is big news for players who have been wanting the developers to add new weapons and gear to spice up their arsenal. The Handmade SMG requires a Workbench Level 1, 5 HQM, 200 Metal Fragments, and a Metal Spring. The weapon has fairly low damage, holds 18 bullets a mag, and has horrible accuracy, but it serves as a great primitive alternative to a nail gun or revolver.

SKS Rifle

Originally intended as a skin for the SAR, the community managed to pressure the developers to give players a new weapon with which to shed blood instead. The SKS serves as a Workbench Level 3 equivalent of the SAR. It costs 12 HQM, 200 Metal Fragments, 1 Semi Automatic Body, and 2 Metal Springs. It has higher stats than the SAR, featuring a greater range, damage, and an even higher fire rate. It holds 15 bullets a mag and is a great addition to spice up Rust’s arsenal.

Gestures Pack DLC

The new gestures pack DLC adds nine new emotes to the game for 8 dollars. You can access the nine new emotes through a new UI radial menu, with each gesture having its own icons. Most notably, it includes a new Rock Paper Scissors gesture that allows you to throw whichever one of the three moves is picked, a shush gesture, a finger gun gesture, and even a knuckle crack gesture. The developers did not miss these new gestures, and we’re sure many players will grab this DLC.

Wolf AI

Facepunch has also added a completely new AI for Rust’s wolves. The wolves will now bunch and travel in packs, be fearful of fire, and even jump up on rocks or foundations if you aren’t careful. While they haven’t been changed visually, along with the features mentioned before, you may even hear them howling in the distance and calling for more wolves to support them. Watch for their new movement, don’t get hit or bit, and be careful at night.

CCTV Microphones

CCTV cameras have seen some serious fixes and improvements as they are now recording audio. Whether you are in the underwater labs, swimming in the ocean on boogie boards to an oil rig, or sneaking through someone’s base, be careful with someone on a computer station watching you through a sneaky camera.

New Quality of Life Changes

Rust has also received some new quality-of-life changes, with commands, features, fixes, and more being affected.

Monument Rocks Updates

The rocks around Rust’s monuments are being changed, and the rocks they use are being updated to use the new cliffs introduced in Rust’s World update last month. Be sure to travel the Rust map and visit all of Rust’s monuments to see the new changes. The changes also make the cliffs easier to navigate giving you more ways to explore and make plays, you may even be able to scale a vehicle up these new cliffs.

Large Backpack Skins

The large backpack has become skinnable, meaning you will be able to find new stylish appearances that will allow you to flex every time you’re wearing it. The first skin for the large backpack comes in the form of twitch drops, and it’s a skin for Abe and Itsryanhiga. The skins will show on any servers while being worn by any player and even when dropped on the ground.

Misc Changes

The last changes we will be covering were changes that didn’t fit into any of the before categories.

Rad Changes

Splashes of radioactive water now give 40% more rads. Sprinklers with radioactive water give 70% more rads.

Other Changes in the Most Recent Rust Update

• The Halloween event has ended
• You can now use the surrender gesture whether you are standing or crouching.
• The bug with caves originating from last month’s world update is being fixed.
