How to Create a Rust Pixel Gap
Rust is the most brutal survival game out there, especially for a new player. The Rust community is known for being cruel and unforgiving and for stopping at no limits to get your loot and ruin your progress. That is why it is essential to have a safe base to store your resources, food, and weapons and protect yourself from combat, raids, and your surroundings. If you put a focus on finding creative ways to survive and hide your precious loot from raiders, such as pixel gaps, you may find it can be easier to bend the rules of Rust than you might have originally thought.
One of the more unknown ways to do this that mostly only seasoned players know is through pixel gaps. A pixel gap in Rust is a small gap between the walls or ceilings of a Rust base originally unintended by the developers that allows you to access hidden loot behind a wall that would otherwise be inaccessible. The pixel gap that will be shown today is perfect for a smaller Rust base that wants to save space and hide their Tool Cupboard (TC).
Gather Resources
Before creating the pixel gap in Rust, you will need the resources and tools needed to create it. Gathering the resources for the pixel gap shouldn’t take too long as you should only need wood to craft a building plan and hammer and then enough extra materials and resources to build the pixel gap itself. A couple of thousand pieces of wood and material of your choice to upgrade the pixel gap will serve perfectly; you can always go back to gather more resources if necessary.
Create the Pixel Gap
The first thing when creating this Rust pixel gap is to place two twig foundations in a flat location next to each other, as shown.
Next, stand on the far right of the two twig foundations and place one triangle foundation far in front of you.
Then, without moving your mouse, move left until the triangle foundation is placeable, and then move right until the triangle foundation is as close as it can be to the original, as shown.
This step is difficult at first and may take a couple of tries; if you happen to make a mistake, just destroy the triangle foundations and try again, but you will know you’ve got it once you can place a triangle foundation in between, connecting the two triangle foundations together (Please note it isn’t necessary to place this third foundation, and it is only used to check if foundations are properly placed).
With the hard part over, place a half wall facing inwards on the left triangle, followed by a triangle ceiling that should hover above the empty gap between the two triangles. Next, place a half wall on top of the ceiling, hovering above the right triangle.
Finish off the pixel gap by placing a half wall below the top one and demolishing the ceiling and left triangle.
Finish Your Base
With your Rust pixel gap complete, place your TC on the triangle foundation, as shown in the image.
Be sure to lock the TC before sealing it in, as it can be difficult to place later on. Once locked, place walls on both sides and a ceiling above the TC, sealing it off from other players.
Upgrade all the twig to the material of your choice, however, it is important to note if the pixel gap is upgraded to High Quality Metal it becomes extremely difficult to access. Continue to build your Rust base, making sure you build it around the pixel gap so that you can access it while in base.
With your Rust base finished and having all the necessary deployables such as a sleeping bag, a workbench, and more, cleverly place a small box as shown so you can access the hidden pixel gap in your base.
Then, stand on the box or item and shimmy around until you get the “OPEN” pop-up, which will allow you to open the TC and access all of your loot.
