How to Rank Up in CS2: Wingman Edition
Wingman is a prevalent game mode within CS2. It features custom two-versus-two maps and is highly unique compared to other ranked options within the game. Compared to other competitive and casual modes, Wingman is a strictly competitive game mode with a rank system attached to every match.

How Do CS2 Wingman Ranks Work?
Similar to other ranked game modes, wingman follows the same rank system of Silver, Gold Nova, Master Guardian, and so on. Not to be confused with the regular competitive mode, Wingman maps do not have an individual rank but a combined singular wingman rank. Each game, depending on whether it is a win or loss, can be either a push towards a rank-up or down.
How Do You Rank Up Within CS2 Wingman?
1. Learn The Maps
A key aspect of ranking up is putting in the effort. One cannot expect to rank up within a skill-based matchmaking system when little to no effort is put in. Learning how to call is essential to all wingman games as you gain the ability to communicate on a higher level as a duo. Another key aspect of learning a map is finding smoke lineups. Hundreds of videos and guides help you understand the perfect set of smokes for all Wingman maps. Learning lineups is a fantastic way to gain an advantage over the enemy team and leads to higher eliminations as you take control of the playing field.

2. Play Wingman consistently
Consist practice and gameplay are key to any ranking system, regardless of it being Premier, Competitive, or Wingman mode. Going inactive for long periods not only causes you to gain rank and skill slowly, but it also leads to a path in which your skill group deteriorates instead of increases like we all would like it to. If you go without playing wingman mode for over 28 days, your rank will expire, and after the following win, a rank will be reassigned to you that could be either less or more than a previous one! Now, we are not saying you must play hours of the wingman game mode every night, but even a singular game or thirty-minute practice can lead to vast improvement.
3. Performance
A key aspect of Wingman, much like other rank systems within CS2, is the aspect of performance; performance is one of the most important factors when ranking up within Wingman. When playing with a single teammate, losing is quite frustrating, and you often blame your teammate for the game’s failure. A significant thing to do well playing with a frustrating teammate, or even a good one, is to focus on individual performance. Within the Wingman mode, individual performance is key even when faced with a tie or loss.
4. Teammates
When playing this game mode, you must have a good teammate. If you are stuck picking up the slack for a poor performance on behalf of your duo, the ranking system will not lean in favor of an uprank. Some essential tips to ranking up with a teammate are to have a teammate in the same skill group as you or, ideally, someone in a higher skill group than you. Playing with a teammate of a higher rank not only allows off-carrying to occur but also allows you to face more challenging enemies that will inevitably force you to grow as a player.
5. Practice
This simple idea seems so obvious, right, yet many players skip out on the most straightforward training. CS2 has many maps that teach aim training, movement techs, smoke lineups, recoil control, and more. CS2 does not have to be a full-time job, but even the simplest 15-minute warmup before you start your session will lead to extreme growth! With more practice and training, you will see higher rewards, but that is not for everyone, and that’s ok! The amazing part about practicing for this game mode is the fact that it goes quite literally hand in hand with every other game mode, whether it be competitive, Premier, or even simple games such as casual or deathmatch practice for Wingman. It helps with them all! A large majority of Wingman maps are little slices of popular Competitive and Premier maps, allowing you as a player to become masterful at Wingman and all modes through simple practice.
To close, you can succeed regardless of hours, experience, or background; you must put in the effort. The Skinlords team wishes you luck throughout your Wingman journey! If you have any helpful tips for Wingman or questions, please feel free to leave a comment below!
