Welcome to The New Train
The biggest feature added to this new CS2 update is the reintroduction of Train. The map was originally released all the way back in CS 1.6 and made its way into CS:GO in 2014. After sadly being removed in 2021, the community has been waiting for the classic map to make a comeback. Today, those prayers have finally been answered, with Train being welcomed back in Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch modes.
The new Train brings with it major visual and gameplay overhauls, with daytime being gone and clouds and rainy skies on the forecast for the foreseeable future. Many adjustments to the map have been made: where the ladder room used to lay a staircase that will take you to halls; the ladder to heaven has been closed off, making it inaccessible; and the catwalk has been reworked with parkour across a train being necessary to cross it. While these are the most notable changes, there are many more you will be able to explore.
Overpass Changes
Overpass has received numerous changes in the new CS2 update. The railings on B-site heaven have been split open making an easy exit down into pit, the small fence at party has been removed, a sign has been placed at the boost in upper park or long, along with other adjustments, improvements, and fixes to make the map play and perform smoother.
Community Maps
Four new community maps were also introduced into the map pool with the All Aboard update. With these new maps coming, it also means the sad departure of Thera, Mills, Assembly, and Memento from all game modes.
Basalt
Basalt makes its way back into Counter-Strike, completely reimagined for the Source 2 engine. Set in the majestic mountains of Iceland, Basalt is a two-site map that is available for Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch. The map was originally added back in 2021 with the introduction of Operation Riptide; however, it was sadly removed once the Operation concluded. It was beloved by the community when it was originally in the game and finally has the chance to be beloved once again.
Edin
In the setting of a city in Scotland, Edin is the second community map being introduced with the CS2 update. Narrow alleyways and building halls take up much of the map, with the most open areas being the bomb sites and mid. Interestingly enough, bombsite A is on top of CT spawn while bombsite B is in the dead center of the map. Overall, Edin is very diverse compared to the other maps in the competitive pool, and it seems like it will have gameplay that you can’t get on any other CS2 map. The map will be playable in Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch modes.
Palais
The next map, Palais, takes place on the rooftops of a historic building in Paris, where you and a friend can battle it out on this Wingman-exclusive map. Small sections of the building are available for entry, where you can find detailed living spaces and artwork. Outside on the rooftop, you can find a small garden and the bombsite. The map is extremely detailed, and it will be very exciting to see what strategies the community comes up with for this unique case of a map.
Whistle
Whistle is another Wingman map introduced with the All Aboard update. Whistle takes place on a historic train station with three lanes to battle down. The middle lane, where A-site rests, is the focal point of the map, with plenty of close cover, props, and details. The left lane is a long empty railroad, which seems to be meant for sniping, and the right lane, which takes place in a building, seems to be meant for more close-quarters combat. The beautiful map took advantage of everything Source 2 has to offer with amazing lighting and effects, and whether or not you are a fan of Wingman, it is definitely worth hopping into a match.
Other Additions
Damage Prediction
A new damage prediction setting has been added with the CS2 update, allowing player’s clients to play the audio and visual effects of damage being inflicted before it registers on the server. The intention of the feature was so that players could have a more responsive experience; however, the developers admit that the feature can be inaccurate, and players may run into some inconsistencies.
Grenade Changes
The flashbang animation has been changed, which will now properly represent the visibility of a player, with their arm covering their eyes only when they are fully blind. Also, when using the grenade preview command, the camera should now show the results of jumping while throwing you hold your jump key bind.
Map Guides
A map guide has been added to Train, which will teach the player four basic lineups for grenades while on Terrorist. The feature seems to still be a work in progress, so be sure to leave feedback.
Additional Map Changes
Ancient has had some fixes, including some lighting errors, collision gaps, bad wall bang spots, and a spot where you can get stuck, all of which are being fixed. Mirage has had a pixel peek fixed, Italy has had a couple of bad boost spots fixed, and Shoots will be seeing some performance improvements while players are in certain spots.
